The plant, which is operated by RWE, is one of the largest and most efficient of its kind in Europe. It is also the first gas-fired power plant that RWE has built in the UK for many years. The plant uses the most advanced technology to achieve a high efficiency rating of 58 percent and reduces CO2 emissions significantly: compared to a coal-fired power plant, the Staythorpe CCGT plant saves 7.5 million tonnes of CO2 annually. At full capacity, it can feed 1,650 MW into the national grid, which is sufficient to supply approximately 2.8 million households with electricity.
